Men’s soccer team looking for revenge
The Varsity men’s soccer team won their first two playoff games against Columbus West, with a score of 3-1, and Big Walnut, winning 1-0 in overtime. Despite their success in their first playoff games, it was not looking good going into the rest of the postseason. Before the playoffs, Darby was handed two tough losses against Bradley, with the final score of 5-1, and Marysville, losing 1-0.
Team captain Jack Gearhiser shared how the end of their season felt after the big win against Columbus West.
“There are things that always need improvement, the end of our season was rough but every game is a new one. It felt good to get back in the win column, I feel like we can go toe to toe with the best in the state on any given night,” said Gearhiser.
It is a relief to see this team winning again especially when it matters. The big struggle recently has been finding the back of the net. The problem is not getting the opportunity to score, but capitalizing on the opportunity to score. The Big Walnut game should not have been that close, as it could have been a solid win and maybe even a blowout. If Darby can fix this problem they could be a very dangerous team moving forward.
Now Darby is facing some unusual territory, playing their first away game this postseason. This also happens to be the same team, St. Charles, that kicked them out of the tournament last year. This means that everybody, especially the upperclassmen, will have revenge on their minds. Saturday night Darby plays Marysville at 8 o’clock at Westerville North, everyone will get the chance to see what Darby soccer is all about.
