X-Show double feature represents the variety in Darby theatre
On Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th, a double feature of the X-Shows, “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” and “MC One Acts” was put on in the Darby X-Theatre. “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” was performed first at 7:00 pm, and Matthew Connell’s original show, featuring three skits, followed.
The two shows were performed in front of a full house filled with parents and fellow students. “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” was based on the book written by Celeste Raspanti and Hana Volavková, and follows the story of the young girl Raja Englanderova and other Jewish children who grew up in the ghetto of Terezin during the Holocaust. The set for this show was special, as the X-Theatre was decorated with paper butterflies made by elementary school kids from Hilliard. The show was directed by seniors Sarah Krumpe and Christian Hill, and tech directed by senior Cara Crowley.
“MC One Acts” was written by Senior Matthew Connell, and it doubled as his Senior Capstone. The first skit was about magicians who are part of a gang, and a businessman who gets caught up in their magic schemes. Next was a broadcast from the CDC warning against a virus called “emotion” of which many are susceptible to. The final segment was the story of the invisible man, a scientist who invented a serum that turns people invisible. Many people show up at his mansion looking for him, but he’s nowhere to be found. The show was directed by Senior Matthew Connell, and tech directed by Junior Olivia Deslandes.
Sadly, there are no Darby shows coming up before the next school year, the Hilliard Arts Council is putting on the musical, “Guys and Dolls” on July 14th and 15th at 8:00 pm and July 16th at 3:00 pm.
