Volleyball senior Brinkerhoff prepares for last season
Senior volleyball player Brad Brinkerhoff has high hopes for his last high school season. Boys’ volleyball at Darby has a long streak of success and as a senior Brinkerhoff knows the importance of leaving a legacy that can continue on the victorious path.
The outside hitter is in his seventh year of playing and is an all region and all OCC athlete, and after all this time still loves his sport.
“[Volleyball is] very competitive and we’re pretty good at it and we have a chance to compete in states every year, which not every sport has,” Brinkerhoff explained.
Boys volleyball has been in the state’s final four the last eight years, including once as runner up and twice as the champion, most recently in 2015. They also have 16 straight OCC titles.
Number 5 acknowledges the importance a leader has to those younger on the team.
“There’s a lot of responsibilities that come with [being a senior],” Brinkerhoff explained, “[Such as] bringing up the younger guys, so the program is good in the next season and making sure to set the tone on the court for players to follow.”
Brinkerhoff has committed to Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri. As a Lion he will play volleyball in this division one school and majoring in history for secondary education, but he is still focused and hopeful for his last season here.
“I think if we compete and bring it in practice we’ll have a pretty good chance [at a state title],” Brinkerhoff said.
