Trick or Treat so Tots Can Eat
Trick or Treat So Tots Can Eat is an event the theater troupes at all three Hilliard schools compete in. It is a national competition The thespians meet at one of the high schools before trick or treat starts. This year it will be hosted by Bradley.
Hilliard Darby High School, along with Bradley and Davidson, belong to the International Thespian Society. To be eligible for membership, the group must meet certain requirements, and community service is apart of these requirements. The Hilliard schools have teamed up to see who can collect the most canned goods for the Mid Ohio Food Bank.
Students dress up and split into groups to cover all of Hilliard. They then go door to door, but instead of asking for candy they ask for canned goods. This year Trick or Treat is on Halloween, Monday, October 31st from 6pm-8pm.
In the past, students have had lots of fun going all out with their costumes. Junior Austin Rutherford said there was a huge range of costumes last year.
“There were people dressed up as Dorothy and someone even went as Wendy [the fast food restaurant],” Rutherford stated.
Last year, 269 troupes participated and they collected over 325,000 pounds of food for their local food pantries. Darby’s troupe is excited and hope to win this year.
Any student who would like to participate can, even if you are not involved in theatre. Trick Or Treat So Tots Can Eat is a great way to give back to the community, and everyone is encouraged to go.
