Tips for shopping this Black Friday
As the holiday season quickly approaches so does the stress of finding the perfect gift. Black Friday is the perfect time to help relieve some stress during the holiday season by allowing shoppers to get all of their holiday shopping done in one day at discounted prices. For those who don’t know, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving where most retail stores offer major discounts in order to attract customers seeking to buy presents during the holiday season. Over the years, the tradition of Black Friday has become more and more extreme. From shoving through crowds to get to the perfect toy or waiting in line for hours in the cold to be the first customer in the doors, here are some tips to help get through this Black Friday.
In 2017,Thanksgiving falls on the 23 of November and Black Friday falls on the 24th of November. Traditionally, stores open their doors at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, but in recent years stores have begun opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. Walmart and Target will open their doors at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Kohl’s and Macy’s will open at 5:00 p.m. on the 23rd as well as Best Buy and Toy R Us. Some of these stores such as Target, Macy’s, and Best Buy will be closing around midnight and reopening their doors in the morning on Friday. Other stores opt to stay true to tradition and keep all shopping discounts confined to Friday. Lowe’s and Home Depot will open at 6:00 a.m. and Five Below opens at 7:00 a.m. on Friday. Some stores such as Apple are offering few discounts on Black Friday, so if you are looking to make some larger purchases this Black Friday your best bet will be at a store like Best Buy or Walmart. Walmart is offering a 32GB 5th generation iPad for $249 (save $80) and a 32GB iPhone 6 on Straight talk wireless for $129 (save $70). The local department stores in Hilliard are taking some measures to prepare for Black Friday as well. After consulting with a Target employee on Hilliard Rome Rd, she explained that the store will be taking extra security measures during Black Friday hours. For example there will be extra staff members watching the self checkout to make sure no one tries to steal anything. The Target employee estimated at least a 50% increase in sales at their store on Black Friday compared to a normal day, however other Target stores have achieved over a 300% increase in daily sales on Black Friday. Target and most other stores depend on Black Friday and the busy shopping time around the holidays for the majority of their yearly revenue.
As a shopper, there are some thing that people can do to prepare for Black Friday as well. Experienced Black Friday shoppers suggest that you shop at the larger department stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, and Target for your electronics and appliances, while hitting up the outlet malls for clothing and a wider variety of sales. Another tip from an experienced shopper is to arrive at the stores around 8 a.m.. This is when the rush of midnight shoppers will be tired and ready to leave. Since the second rush of shoppers usually arrives around noon, or this will allow you to shop for a few hours without having to deal with the rush. However, most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy the time shopping by bringing family along. Remember to not stress and embrace the holiday spirit!
