The Miller quad for Girls Volleyball
On Saturday, October 6th Darby held the first ever Miller’s Quad for Girls Volleyball. These games were for Girls Varsity and JV Volleyball teams and consisted of four strong programs. The teams in last weekend’s quad were Hilliard Darby, St. Francis DeSales, Jonathan Adler and Olentangy Liberty. This event was in memory of Mrs. Miller, who was a math teacher at Hilliard Darby. She taught at Darby for 19 years, and was also a cheerleading coach. Mrs. Miller passed away 1 and a half years ago due to cancer that was undiagnosed.
Hilliard Darby played three challenging games this past weekend against tough opponents with their first game being against Olentangy Liberty. The Lady Panthers fought hard throughout the game and never gave up, but unfortunately they lost in the second set. During the season the Panthers have had to overcome a lot of difficult challenges and fight through obstacles. One setback that changed their normal play was multiple players not being able to play due to injury.
I talked to Junior Olivia Krumpe to get her insight on how she thought they would do and what challenges they would face.
She responded with, “I’m sure we’ll do well, these are teams we haven’t seen yet this season and that we don’t typically play so it’ll be fun to get some new competition.”
Olivia continued by stating, “The main challenge we face is redoing our lineup. Our setter got hurt and won’t be able to play this weekend, but we’ve had to face other adversities this season and will get through it.”
Before the game I talked to the new head coach of the Girls Volleyball team, Coach Stephanie Dietrich to get her thoughts about the upcoming games. I asked her what have they been doing in practice to prepare for the tough end of their season.
Dietrich replied with, “We have really been trying to sharpen up on things that we haven’t been able to do and areas where we’ve been making mistakes in the games.”
Dietrich says they have been working hard everyday at practice to finish out their regular season games and enter into tournament play. Dietrich also shared her thoughts about the great individual leaders she has had on the team this season,
“My seniors have shown a lot of leadership this season. Annie Rauch and Stacia Rispress have really stepped up.” The girls volleyball team has great individual strengths but when put together they can really out play any team.
After the quad, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team has two games left in their regular season. Make sure to check out the girls Senior Night this Thursday, October 11 at around 6:30pm. Students can get into game with a regular student ID and also will recieve pizza!
