The Darby swim team takes on Davidson and Bradley

The Hilliard Darby boys and girls swim teams both brought their A-game to their meet this past Saturday. Both the boys and girls took on Hilliard Bradley and Hilliard Davidson at the Hilliard YMCA on January 20th. The match up was also the teams final home meet. The girls team wrapped up the season with a victory, placing first, and the boys placed second to Davidson, beating out Bradley.
The girls team started off strong as senior Lexie McDonald placed first in the 200 yard IM (Individual Medley), which is an eight lap race that includes all four strokes. McDonald’s time was 2:14.00, finishing far ahead of the rest of her competition. The girls continued on to get second and third in the 500 yard freestyle, which is a 20 lap race across the 25 meter pool. The ladies also placed first and second in the 200 yard freestyle relay as well as first in the 100 yard breaststroke. These scores helped put the Darby girls swim team into position to clinch a victory as they entered the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay. The girls came away with second in the race with a time of 4:24.42, which was enough to secure the win.
The boys also started off strong as freshman Braden Bower swam his best time of the season in the 200 yard freestyle.
“I think one of my personal highlights [from this season] was swimming 2 minutes flat in the 200 free,” Bower said, “it wasn’t a personal best, but it was my best time of the season.”

Bower swam in the 200 medley relay, and the 500 yard freestyle as well, where he came away with second place with a time of 5:22.08. Bower also competed in the 200 freestyle relay, where his team placed second with a time of 1:44.55. The boys also managed to get second in the 100 yard backstroke and first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.88. The boys team ended up in second after a tough battle with Davison and Bradley.
The meet was not only a highly anticipated match up against Darby’s two rival Hilliard schools, but it was also senior night for all three Hilliard swim teams. Darby senior girls, Taylor Leone, Halli Reinhard, and Lexie McDonald, as well as boys, Matt Logan, Kendall Jones, and Riley Brokaw were all honored before the start of the meet.
Although the swim season is coming to a close, students can still support their swim team as they compete at the OCC championship on January 27th.
