Spring Break in France
This spring break I had the chance to go on the greatest adventure. I took a trip to France. This was a school trip planned to immerse students in the French culture. On this trip we went to many different cities in France, as well as the countries of Monaco and Italy. Now I want to tell you about my experience there.
Day One: March 17
We commenced the trip by flying the whole day. We started from Columbus, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia then we took an overnight flight to Paris, France. The flight to Atlanta was only an hour long, however I slept. When we landed we had to wait for a three hour layover for our next flight. We flew to Paris and when we landed it was a whole new world.
Day Two: March 18
We landed in the Paris airport. Because we flew internationally we had to go through customs. After we got to the greeting place of the airport to meet our tour guide, Mary Survent. She was born and raised in Paris and travelled the world learning many languages. On our first day we did so many sight seeing things but the next day we’ll get into more.
Day Three: March 19
We woke up in a whole new country at 9:00 am. That day we saw some of the most famous landmarks in Paris like the Eiffel Tower, the Arc of Triumph, Notre Dame, Champs Elysées, and the Louvre. First we shopped on the Champs Elysées while taking pictures by the Arc of Triumph. After we went to a park with a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower and went to Notre Dame looking at all the amazing architecture. This was also our first day to use the metro. We used it to go to the Louvre. It was really amazing to go inside because you could find all kinds of famous art in real life. For example, I saw the original Mona Lisa. It was smaller than expected but extraordinary. Before the Louvre, we went to the Arc but at night we got to go to the top and look at the view. From the top we were able to see the effort tower on another level of beauty. This was the first full day in France and it was amazing and I was ready for another.
Day Four: March 20
That day we woke up early enough so we would be some of the first people to be in the Musee d’Orsay. This museum use to be a train station but then was turned into an art museum that is mostly filled with impressionist artworks. The louvre was not the only place to see the most famous artwork because of the Orsay we saw work by Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, etc. After the Orsay we went actually went to the Eiffel Tower and went half way up. This was an amazing this to do because it was the thing that mostly represented France and I was lucky enough to be there. After going to great heights on the Eiffel Tower we went to the highest point of Paris. There we took a sketch lesson with an artist that has lived all over France. We got to see art from every aspect that day.
Day five: March 21
We left the busy city of Paris on a three hour train trip and rested at Nîmes but went a little farther to Avignon. In Avignon we saw the Roman structures of the aqueducts that carried water everywhere. Then we went to the city part
of Avignon and went back to Nîmes to learn about that city too. In Nîmes we went to a Colosseum and a similar building to the Parthenon which were more Roman inspired structures. Personally I think that day five was my favorite because of the small city feel.
Day Six: March 22
This day we left to go Nice the Florida of France. It had pebble stone beaches and beautiful weather. Before we had made it to Nice we took a pit stop in Aix. There we ate lunch and wandered the streets. When we arrived in Nice we walked along the beaches and went through the town.
Day Seven: March 24
Our second day in Nice and we got to play Boule. Which is a game similar to curling but instead you throw the ball. We had a lot of fun there. We had a relay game and all received medals. Then we ate dinner trying new foods we would never choose ourselves.
Day Eight: March 24
To further our exploration we went to the sister country Monaco. We could see the princesses castle and we also took long strolls around on the beautiful day. From there we went deeper into Monaco to Èze. This city was located on top of a mountain and from that mountain we hiked up to the top to have a picnic looking down at the waves, town, and people. Our tour guide, chaperones, and bus driver gave us a surprise. We were headed to Italy. We went to a small town Sanremo. It was really difficult there because in France we could somewhat understand but there we were truly lost but we still managed to get classic gelato and pizza. In one day we went to three different countries with different cultures.
Day Nine: March 25
This was another day full of flying back home because we are all getting a little homesick.
This trip made me really experience what else is out in the world. This also opened my eyes to new cultures. I really enjoyed my trip I recommend to many people to try to get out of their comfort zone.
