Panthers persevere through Bradley upset
The air in the stadium was crisp. The tension was felt from each side of the field as Hilliard rivals prepared to play one of the most important games of the season. The layered shades of pink from Darby’s student section honored the seniors for their fall sport recognitions. Then, the football was jolted into the air and the game began.
Darby’s final football game of the season resulted with a score of 10-24. Darby lost to Hilliard Bradley by only two touchdowns.
Within the first quarter, Darby scored their first touchdown including the extra point leaving the score 7-0 in Darby’s favor. However, Bradley stood their ground and the game was tied up 10-10 at halftime.
Running into the second half, Bradley was able to score two more touchdowns. With four minutes left in the game, Darby’s score remained at 10 points and the game was called. This marked the first time Bradley had beat Darby in all the years they have been open as a high school.
The students of each school were electrified at the end of the game. Everything was riding on the line and with this loss, Darby lost the chance to tie for the OCC title. However, the panthers will still proceed into the playoffs which will occur the following weekend.
