Pumpkin picking

The cooling temperatures, changing leaves, and approach of Halloween means one thing: it’s time to pick the perfect pumpkin. While you could go to places like Wal-Mart or Kroger to select a pumpkin, it is far more fun to go to a pumpkin patch such as Kuhlwein’s Farm, The Orchard and Company, or Jacquemin Farms.

In order to pick the perfect pumpkin, first you have to decide what you want to do with your pumpkin. If you want to carve your pumpkin, you should probably have a certain shape of pumpkin in order to make your design work. If you have a bigger design, you’ll need a bigger pumpkin.

Carving your pumpkin isn’t the only option. You could paint pumpkins with spray paint or acrylic paint. The pumpkin could also become a cool centerpiece for the kitchen table. If you hollow out your pumpkin, you could put flowers in it as a centerpiece or as a cool planter. There are many more things to do with pumpkins as well, such as glue googly eyes to it or even leave it plain.

Although carving a pumpkin is a lot of fun, the pumpkin won’t last as long. If you want to keep the pumpkin as a decoration for longer, you should pick your pumpkin according to your space. If you’re going to keep the pumpkin inside on a table, you should consider a smaller pumpkin. If you’re going to keep it outside, then you can pick your favorite size of pumpkin.

Once you decide what size of pumpkin to get, you are ready to ride out to the patch. At Kuhlwein’s farms, there’s a hayride where you have the option of a corn maze which leads to the pumpkin patch, or you could be just dropped off at the patch. Once you get there, you’ll want to find a sturdy pumpkin. Unfortunately, animals like squirrels like to make pumpkin patches their own personal buffet, so sometimes it can be hard to find a pumpkin without any holes. When you do, press gently on the pumpkin; if it gives a little, you may want to find another pumpkin, as this one won’t last as long. If it doesn’t, then you have found the perfect pumpkin!

Pumpkin picking is a fun way to enjoy the nice weather, and spend some time with your family. Some places also have petting zoos and bonfires. It can be a great thing to do with friends and family this fall season.
