Panthers crush Marysville in football
The football team’s last scrimmage of the season took place on Friday, August 19, against Marysville High School, where Darby prevailed with a 31-7 victory.
In the first quarter Darby started off with the ball and capitalized with a field goal that gave Panthers an early lead of three points. Marysville received the ball after the field goal, and proceeded to score a touchdown. However, it was an uphill battle for Marysville from that point on, as their first touchdown was the only one for the Monarchs. Marysville was not able to score the rest of the game. Darby ended the first quarter with a touchdown, giving them a lead of 10-7.
The team started the second quarter off great with a touchdown that changed the score to 16-7 then they made a field goal to make the score 17-7. Darby continued their momentum with another unbelievable touchdown. The score was 24-7- a perfect way to end the second quarter.
During the fourth and final quarter Panthers topped off a great performance with their final touchdown of the night, leaving the final score 31-7. Darby played a great game defensively and ended the game with a great victory.
The win continued Darby’s .800 win percentage over the last several years. Darby plays home against the Olentangy Braves Friday, August 25 at 7:30.
Freshman player Caiden Rayburn, believes the reason the team does so well, is the family-like atmosphere among the program.
“We’re more like a brotherhood than a team,” Rayburn explained.
