Panther boys first football game

Despite a strong performance, the Hilliard Darby football team was unable to pull off the upset against the Olentangy Braves. They lost on Friday, August 26 by a score of 31-10.

Darby started off the game great, scoring a fast paced touchdown – after their previous score had been taken back due to a penalty. They added to their points with a solid kick from junior Blake Sawicki, who looks like he could be a solid kicker for Darby this year.

The Panthers were able to hold off a strong Olentangy offense long enough to have lead at halftime 10-7. Unfortunately, it was all downhill for Darby from there. A strong combination of running and passing helped Olentangy gain 24 second-half points. Also, Olentangy’s defense seemed to figure out a solution to Darby powerful triple option attack, a staple of Darby’s offense where three different people could end up carrying the ball. Because of these defense tactics, Darby did not score in the second half.

Darby has obstacles to overcome this season, including a tough schedule and the loss of star players due to graduation, such as Nick Powers or Braeden Hook. Darby did show some positives in their first game, however. Hopefully more players emerge as breakout talents as the season goes on.
