Midwest Meet of Champions is on the map
Hilliard Darby Cross Country had a great meet last Saturday on their home course at the Midwest Meet of Champions. The freshman and sophomore boys came in first overall in their race. Darby varsity girls also did very well with a fifth place finish from sophomore Daniella Santos.
Sophomore Jack DeWolfe shared how it felt to run the race.
“It felt amazing to get a dub out here on our home court with my brothers, and get a new personal record,” said DeWolfe.
Freshman Shaun Carney won the race with a time of 16:55, which is a new personal record. Coming in second was sophomore Balaji Kurapati, also for the Panthers.
Carney explained what the experience of winning the meet felt like.
“It was super cool to win the race, and I think our freshman and sophomores will be very good for a while,” Carney said.
A new high school United States record for the 2017 season put the Midwest Meet of Champions on the map.
Buckeye Valley’s Zach Kreft set a new meet and school record, as well as recording the fastest high school time in the U.S. for 2017 in the 5k. Kreft had an incredible time of 14:29:95, and a new personal record. He beat out Brodey Hasty from Brentwood High in Tennessee by 14.75 seconds for the top spot in the Boys Individual Rankings of 2017.
Overall, it was a great meet for the Panthers and the everyone involved. Congrats Darby Cross Country!
