Although Hilliard gymnastics is comprised of three separate, strong, teams, one from each high school, it’s clear that the girls share a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition. On Saturday, their team spirit and hard work led the gymnasts to give a strong showing at the first meet of their season, the Hilliard Gymnastics Invitational.

The three Hilliard teams competed alongside fourteen other teams, including Dublin Jerome, Dublin Coffman, Upper Arlington, and Thomas Worthington.

Sophomore Chloe Shook, stand-out gymnast that brings years of club gymnastics experience to the team, placed eighth all-around with an overall score of 33.575. She was awarded a score of 8.925 on beam, and placed in sixth place on that event.

Shook put her performance in context as to the rest of the season.

“It’s early in the season, so my team and I have room to improve. But, this meet, overall, was a great start,” Shook noted.

Senior Marissa Huffman is beginning her fourth season in high school gymnastics. She explained her love of the floor exercise event,  of which she earned a score of 8.175.

“I love performing floor and smiling at people. My tumbling was good today, too,” Huffman stated.

The girls will compete again on Wednesday at Marysville.
