Halloween DIY: spooky canvas
Everyone loves Halloween. The costumes, the candy, the decorations. Though sometimes it’s hard to decorate the house without breaking the bank. So here’s an easy and cheap DIY to make your home a little more spooky for the season.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 1 CANVAS
- 3-5 ACRYLIC PAINT TUBES OF THE SAME HUE (FOR EX. LIGHT BLUE TO DARK BLUE)
- 1 PENCIL
- 1 TUBE OF BLACK PAINT/BLACK INK/SHARPIE
First, plan out a gradient, (blending darkest to lightest colors). You can mix darker and lighter colors together to make new colors. Purple is used in this diy but any color can be used, like orange or green for a more Halloween feel.
Now it is time to paint on the gradient. Starting with the darkest color and blending the other colors to the lightest color. The whole canvas should be painted nicely and the gradient should not be choppy.
After the gradient dries, it’s time to pencil on some designs. Looking up“Halloween Stencils” on google images gives some good inspiration.
Once you’re happy with your penciled design, go in carefully and and fill them in with either black ink, black paint, or sharpie. Black ink is used here because it gives off the cleanest result.
Now, fairy lights or Christmas lights are to be arranged on the back of the canvas. The uneven spots of paint gives the painting a bit of a cloudy eerie look. In this DIY, some lights are put in the windows of the haunted house to give it more character. Lights can also be arranged around the canvas for a different effect.
