Girls’ Volleyball celebrates their senior night
On October fifth, the girls’ varsity volleyball team had a tremendous Senior Night where the players showed off their new jerseys and beat Thomas Worthington in four sets. This was a very special occasion because eight seniors are leaving after this season. These seniors are Jamie Walters, Emily Nolan, Madison Smith, Abbey Ansel, Paige Kucinic, Quinn Coppess, Lauren Chance, and Cambron Hampton.
Senior night commemorates the seniors and recognized their hard work and contribution to the Darby Volleyball athletic program. The team decorated the entire gym and locker room with streamers and balloons. As a going away gift, each senior received a stunning silver bracelet with their initials.
Madison Smith is planning to continue playing volleyball at High Point University, but is going to miss her Darby team.
“It is saying goodbye to a part of my life like high school because I won’t be able to come back to it,” Smith also mentioned, “I think the most important thing I’m going to miss is the family like team and how every single one of them is my best friend.”
That night all the seniors played tremendously well during one of their last home games of the season. A highlight from that night was when outside hitter Paige Kucinic and junior middle hitter Annie Rauch double blocked Thomas Worthington. Another highlight was when outside hitter Madison Smith ended the first set with a hit straight down the sideline ending with a score of 25-23.
The second set had a bit of a rough patch ending with 18-25, but the girls came through by the third set with 25-21 and finished on the fourth set with 25-20.
Head coach Joe Ross thought everyone played well.
“I thought we did a very nice job,” said Ross, “We experienced some adversity and got through it.”
The fours set were well fought fights, and in the end senior night was a great success with two wins and lots of fun.
