Girl’s tennis team off to a strong start
The girl’s tennis team fought strong against Davidson on Wednesday, August 30th. Senior Varsity players Saja Faisal and Paige Taylor won doubles with 6-0 and 6-2. Junior Varsity won every game but one.
Tennis captain Saja Faisal shared how she and her teammates performed in their matches.
“I think we played well but we had our number one competition,” Faisal said, “I think for myself I did not play my best since it was my first match and first time playing varsity doubles which was much different than any JV match I’ve played. I’m excited to get better and be up to par with varsity skills.”
The students playing varsity singles (one on one) were Junior Kelsey Huss, Senior Grace Alexander and Junior Caitie Su with Sophomore Nidhi Patel and Junior Sydney Davis on first doubles and Taylor and Faisal on second doubles.
The tennis team had a challenging game for the start off the season, but it is clear to see that this match will encourage the players to get better throughout the season.
“Expectations for this season is to test our abilities and play to win rather than returning the ball,” Faisal explained.
Darby has high hopes for the future of their ambitious and hardworking tennis team. To continue supporting the girl’s tennis team, their next game is on Thursday, September 7th against Hilliard Bradley with JV and Varsity both playing on the Darby tennis courts. The games will start at 4:00 pm.
