Destress before tests with a diy stress ball

The end of the school year is almost upon us and the stress that comes with it is increasing as students and teachers are trying to finish up their studies, AP and AIR tests, and exams. What better way to calm yourself down during a stressful time than by using a stress ball. Instead of going out to just buy a cheap stress ball, imagine making one for yourself and friends. A Do-It Yourself stress ball is a fun way to decrease you stress at a low cost, with minimal steps. It will help you stay focused at the end of the school year and keep the stress away!

  • Balloons (doesn’t matter what color)
  • Water
  • Medium sized bowl
  • Spoon
  • Food coloring
  • Corn Starch
  • Measuring cup
  • Funnel

Step One:

With a measuring cup, measure out 1 cup of water and pour it into your medium sized bowl.

Step Two:

After you have your cup of water in your bowl, dry out the measuring cup so it is not damp. Then measure out 2 cups of cornstarch and add that into the bowl with water.

Step Three:

Once you have the proper amount of water and cornstarch in the bowl, stir the ingredients with a spoon until it is completely mixed together. It should start to thicken as you continue to stir it together.

Step Four:

After you are done stirring your mixture, add about 5 drops of food coloring into the substance and stir that together until it is at the color you prefer. We used pink food coloring but you can use whatever color you would like to make it more personal!

Step Five:

Once you have the food coloring mixed together, let your substance sit for about 20-30 minutes so it can get thicker.

Step Six:

Let the mixture sit and get a balloon ready so you can pour some of it into the balloon. We used white balloons so when you squeeze the balloon you will see the pink mixture.

Step Seven:

Put the end of the balloon around the end of the funnel so you don’t make a mess. If you do not have a funnel you can use a plastic water bottle by cutting it in half (it does the same thing that a funnel would do).

Step Eight:

Pour the mixture into the funnel until it fills up the whole balloon. Then take the end of the balloon off the funnel and tie the end in a tight knot.

Step Nine:

Squeeze and watch the stress ease away!

With the end of the school year creating a huge amount of stress, this stress ball will be nice to have. Make some for your friends and teachers with fun, different colors. We hope this decreases your stress and calms you down so you can enjoy your final days of school. Finish the school year strong!
