Darby’s Wrestling Team looks to bounce back
Darby’s wrestling team took a tough loss with a final score of 30-42 to Delaware Hayes last week. Despite the loss, Senior Jacob Cover and Junior Caden Ryan were able to pin their opponent.
Junior Isaac Richards shared his thoughts on the loss, the expectations for the team, and what his goal was for this season.
“It was a tough loss for us. We’ll look back on the mistakes we made, see what we need to work on and fix it. Our goal this season is to send some wrestlers to states. My goal this year is to be a district placer,” said Richards.
This year, Seniors Jacob Cover and Jared Ball are front runners to go to states but it should be interesting if anyone else happens to sneak in.
Wrestling is a lot different from most sports. In most sports you need teamwork to get into the playoffs and into the state championship. However, wrestling is based on how you do individually. The team you wrestle for could be terrible but you have the same chance to win as everyone else. Also, in sports like football you could go the whole game and not get your number called. In wrestling, you are front in center and everyone is watching you. It is added pressure for the wrestler to perform, as your match could be the reason your team wins or loses.
Darby wrestling had a big tournament setup at Bradley high school over the weekend but it was cancelled due to the weather, and they are trying to reschedule.
