Darby Track Wins Home Meet
Darby Varsity Track and Field defended their home track on Friday, April 7th, by winning the Panther Invitational.
The Panthers beat seven other teams, with strong performances in all of the events. Some highlights from the meet included winning both the girls’ and boys’ 4×400 meter relays, boys’ discus taking first and second and Freshman Emma Kowalski taking first in discus with a meet record. Also, boys’ 4×100 meter took first place, Seniors Malcolm Mock and Jillian Simpson secured second in the 100 meter, and girls’ 4×800 meter taking second place. The boys’ distance medley relay also took home first place. In fact, the Panthers were so dominant that the boys beat the second place team, Hilliard Bradley, by a whopping 57 points. The girls also won with a large amount of team members placing in the top three.
This meet was especially significant for the Panthers, as it was at their home track. Home meets come few and far between, so it is very important to the Darby track members to obtain the team wins. Sophomore Kris Day, who helped the Darby boys take second in the 4×200 meter, described the extra boost that comes with performing at home.
“It’s just really great,” Day explained. “My parents, they always motivate me…and they always keep me on like a high maintenance, and keep me where I’m supposed to be and my teammates help me and keep striving me.”
It’s clear that all the Panthers gave great efforts during the meet. The loudspeaker constantly announced victories and great results for Darby, and the track teams will be hoping and training for more success this season.
