Darby gymnastics team wows the crowd at Little Districts competition
The Darby girls gymnastics team showed off their talents at the Little Districts competition this past Monday. Teams from all across the district gathered at Hilliard Davidson to showcase their gymnasts in the events that they would not be competing in this coming Saturday at Districts.
Darby came into the meet with some momentum after placing first at OCC’s and hosting their senior night the week before. Although the meet was not scored for an overall team winner, it did allow the athletes that are not competing in Districts a chance to show off all of their hard work this season.
Darby athletes were eager to compete coming off of their recent OCC win. Darby started strong on beam. Gymnasts Caitlyn McCann and Scarlet Evans both had impressive performances scoring a 7.20 and 7.40 respectively on beam. Gymnast Michaela Hamet also stood out on beam with an impressive front tuck dismount.
Next, Darby was off to floor. Freshman Bailey Miller took the high score for Darby with 7.850. Miller will also be competing at Districts on Saturday the 24th. Vault followed floor, and McCann had another impressive performance, this time coming away with the top score for Darby, earning a 7.5. After vault, Darby headed off to bars where Evans wowed the crowd again, securing the top score for Darby with a score of 6.2.
Hamet is another gymnast who competed at Little Districts on Monday who will also be competing at Districts on Saturday. Hamet competed on floor, bars, and beam. She placed 2nd on floor, 3rd on beam, and 10th on bars overall. Hamet will be competing on vault at the upcoming Districts meet and is excited for the upcoming events at the end of the season.
“I’m very excited for Districts as the season ends and the team banquet,” Hamet said, “I’ve had such an amazing experience with these girls on my team and I can’t wait for next season.”
Come support Hamet and the rest of the Darby Gymnastics team this Saturday, February 24th, at Districts at Worthington Kilbourne or come to the state meet on March 3rd at Hilliard Bradley.
