Darby Boys soccer looking to pick up momuntum
Darby Boys Soccer has had an okay start to their season, with a 4-2-2 record. However, their momentum was stopped when they had a tough loss on Thursday against Dublin Scioto, with a final score of 0-3 in favor of Scioto.
The first half was great for the Panthers. Early in the first half, senior Jackson Janetski had a near goal. Senior Daniel Djelmis had an outstanding save, chasing the ball into the goal and barely saving it, sending himself straight into the back of the goal. Sophomore goalie Brian Watkins also had a great save from an upper ninety shot. To close the half, Sophomore Colin Walters had a near goal, missing the goal by a hair. The score was tied 0-0 at the end of the first half.
Watkins started off the second half with a fantastic sliding save, but unfortunately, that was about all the good that came out of the second half. Senior Siddarth Dasaraju went down early in the second half, not to be brought back in for the remainder of the game. Within the first 10 minutes of the half, Dublin Scioto scored their first goal. Scioto then scored twice more in the following 10 minutes, leading the game to its close with a 3-0 defeat for the Panthers.
With a tough game coming up this week against Dublin Jerome, Senior Jackson Janetski speaks on how the team is preparing.
“We’ve been really focused on trying to work more as a team rather than a bunch of individuals since that loss last Thursday,” says Janetski.
The team hopes for another successful season, despite losing seven key, senior players last year, when they won their first District title , and are looking to defend their win.
“Our main goal is really just trying to match what we did last year by winning a district title and seeing if we can go one step further,” Janetski shared.
