Darby Baseball I’d having a great season so far, and is looking to make it back to Districts this season!
Darby Baseball had an amazing start to Prom day on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Holland Springfield.
The Darby seniors had a great game. In the first inning, senior Ben Gbur walked to first and stole second. Senior Clay Strausbaugh also walked to first, and senior Tim Hales hit a ground ball through third allowing Gbur to run home. The score was 1-1 at the end of the first inning, and by the end of the second inning, Senior Ian Coverstone slid into second base and stole third shortly after.
In the second half of the game, Gbur stole home making the score 2-1 at the bottom of the third inning. Senior Brice Stultz hit a line drive to first and was safe. Sophomore Jacob Wells struck out the first batter of the last inning for the opposing team, and gave up no runs the remainder of the inning, leaving the score 2-1 at the end of the game.
Gbur had an outstanding game, being the only one to run across home plate and scoring all the team’s points. His senior season is going well so far.
“Our season has been going great so far. We’ve been winning a lot of baseball games, and I’m having a lot of fun,” said Gbur.
The team has some very high goals and expectations for this year’s season.
“Our goal is to win states, like everyone wants to. We definitely want to ‘fourpeat’ our OCC championship, and go back to Districts,” says Gbur.
Come out and support the team as they look to win another OCC title this year, and make it even farther in the district championship. Their next game is Wednesday against Mount Vernon, so come and cheer on the team!
