Competition Cheer Wins States
The Darby Competition cheer team went into the state championships undefeated, and emerged with a first-place trophy for the first time in Panther history. Sophomore Chloe Shook said the team started the season with the goal of winning the States Championship.
“I’ll never forget the feeling of getting off the mat with my team knowing that we preformed to the absolute best of our ability, and the even better feeling of hearing Hilliard Darby announced as the state champions,” Shook stated.
On Sunday March 8, the panthers took the floor at St. John’s Arena for the last time this season, competed in the Cardinal Division against Centerville, Hilliard Bradley, Hilliard Davidson and 19 others.
Junior Savannah Porter said that excitement filled the air when “Hilliard Darby” was finally announced as the first-place winner during the award ceremony.
“Winning a state title was such an amazing experience. My team and I worked so hard this year to have an undefeated season and we achieved our goal. It was seriously the best feeling ever,” Porter said. The cheerleader’s hard work paid off as they brought home the gold and won the state title for the first time. Congrats, ladies!
