Christian Hill prepares to dazzle audiences as theatre troupe hosts conference
Senior Christian Hill is the first Darby student to make it into the All-Ohio State Thespian Show. The show will be Lynn Ahrens’s Once on This Island, an inspiring musical based on the Disney’s The Little Mermaid. While any thespian member registered in Ohio can audition to be in the show, the competition is often very fierce.
Hill shared his excitement about getting in the show as well the process he went through to be chosen.
“I auditioned in the fall. There were three audition weekends,” he explained. “I was so excited and honored to be chosen to be in the show.”
The All-Ohio State Thespian Show is an event sponsored by the Ohio Education Theatre Association. Once on This Island will be open to the public on March 23, and will also perform at a conference on March 24. The cast and crew will practice for about eight hours every week until the show date.
Hill related what he is most excited for.
“I’m looking forward to telling this beautiful story and meeting new friends,” he said.
Hill has been participating in theatre for seven years, and is currently the assistant director for the upcoming show, 12 Incompetent Jurors and Vice President of acting for the troupe. Prior to this, he has participated in many Darby shows, including Into the Woods, [title of show], and The Mousetrap. He plans to major in musical theatre after he graduates this year from Darby.
In addition to this exciting news, the Darby Theatre Troupe hosted the Area Conference, which is an annual gathering of theatre troupes in the Central Ohio area. The troupes perform and attend shows as well as participate in fun workshops. Area took place on January 7 from about 9 a.m. to roughly 5 p.m.
