Chloe Shook represents Darby gymnastics team at state competition
This past Saturday, March 3rd, the Darby gymnastics team wrapped up an exciting season at the Ohio High School State Gymnastics Meet. Teams from all around the state gathered at Hilliard Bradley High School this past weekend to compete. Friday night, March 2nd, was the team competition. Darby did not compete at the team event, however, the Bradley gymnastics team represented the Hilliard Gymnastics program Friday night, placing 12th overall in the state.
On Saturday, the team competition was held and senior Chloe Shook competed for Darby on floor.
Shook made her third high school career appearance at the State Gymnastics Meet this year as the only gymnast competing for Hilliard Darby. Shook competed in the 7th squad on floor, and her routine scored an impressive 9.20. Shook ended her high school career placing 13th in the state on floor. Shook prepared for the meet just like she would for any other.
“I worked hard at practice but also found time to relax throughout the week,” Shook said, “I tried to not put too much pressure on myself.”
Although Shook had a very successful senior season, she says that her favorite parts of this season were the times that she spent bonding with her team. After participating in many team diners and a team sleepover, the ladies in the Hilliard gymnastics program became very close.
“There are so many girls in the Hilliard program that I would not have met had I decided to remain in club gymnastics,” Shook said.
Since Shook is a senior, this was her last year in the Darby gymnastics program. However, Shook as well as the rest of the team encourages new gymnasts to join new season.
Although the season has ended, the team is still celebrating their successful year Hilliard Darby earned the distinguished title of OCC champions this past season and had several in season victories over the Bradley and Davidson programs. Assistant coach Regina Coverstone was also given the award for assistant coach of the year at the end of this season. The gymnastics will be closing out the season at the annual winter sports banquet on Wednesday, March 7th.
