Check Out The Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team

As the spring sports seasons are in full swing, Hilliard Darby High School has noticed a sport that has been doing very well. Even though this might not be the most popular sport, it is definitely one to come watch and learn how the game is played. The sport that has caught an eye is the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team at Darby. The girls have developed a strongly competitive team with intense attackers and defenders, lead by the knowledgeable coaches Kaleb Secor and Lexie Walton. On April 11, the lady Panthers took on Delaware Hayes at home, which counted as an OCC game. The first half was dominated by the Panthers as they showed determination and their athleticism. As the minutes were ticking down, Delaware started to grow more comfortable going to goal and began scoring more and almost catching up to Darby. But the Panthers never gave up, even though they might of gone through some rough patches.

One of the Panthers’ highly skilled midfielders is junior, Carli Rigel. Carli has been a 3 year starter on the varsity squad, showcasing her skills from the very beginning of her high school career. Rigel was also voted by her teammates and coaches as one of the team’s captains.

“Being a captain has reminded me to lead by example and motivate my teammates to work hard each and every day,” shared Rigel.

Overall, Rigel stated that it makes her a better person and helps her know people are looking up to her as a leader. With the help of her teammates, the Panthers have been an unstoppable team, showing their control in every game.

The second half showed how disciplined and focused the girls are to win and get better every game. They continued to attack the goal and withstand great defense, ending the game as a 19-12 victory.

I got the chance to talk with sophomore Kelsey Binion before the game. She shared her thought about team chemistry and what they do to prepare for game.

“We really focus on running through our plays and stick work to get prepared for a hard game. Our team chemistry is really good and we have a strong connection which helps in the long run. This has helped encourage each other on the field and keep us competing at a high standard,” Binion explained.

Come watch the lady Panthers dominate throughout the season. This team has some very good players who also play for highly known club teams throughout Columbus. With great coaches and team chemistry, the Panthers will go far this season. Check out the next home game for the Hilliard Darby Girls Varsity Lacrosse team on April 18 vs. Ganhanna Lincoln with JV starting at 5:30pm and Varsity at 7:00pm.
