Boy’s Bowling looking for a Championship season
A bowling team may not seem like a big deal to many, but here at Hilliard Darby, it is a huge deal. Last year was left unfinished after they beat the state champions in an early season match, but were then unable to make it out of sectionals with the exception of this year’s captain, Josh Larsen. Although, this year’s team is expecting to make it much farther with a huge turnout in the student section for their matches.
The team did have a few bumps in the road early this season. Unfortunately, the team was facing extinction a few months ago, because there was no coach. Larsen went out on his own and found a group of coaches willing to take on the job. Practice is now well underway, and the team has high hopes for this year’s season.
“I’m expecting big things this season because we have a lot of new guys that have a lot of talent. Every bowler brings something different to the table, and I think we have a pretty good chance to succeed this year,” proclaimed Larsen.
The team has tons of promising bowlers including senior Mason Bowers, junior Larsen, senior Jalen Clisby, and junior Michael Beard. Bowers is new to the team this year and has become a real asset. He is bowling an average of 190 which is incredibly impressive.
Larsen is a returning bowler since freshman year and is leading the team in points. He is scoring 203 on average. Larsen’s scores, with the help of Bowers and the rest of the team, is creating promise for a state championship.
“Our main goal for this season is obviously a state championship. We are very excited to see the team come together and exceed our potential as a unit,” Bowers shared, echoing Larsen’s thoughts.
