Avengers: Endgame shatters box office records

Avengers: Endgame was one of the most anticipated movies of 2019, and it obliterated box office records on its opening weekend. The movie, which premiered on April 26, made a stunning $350 million nationally and $1.2 billion internationally in its opening weekend, topping the record set by Avengers: Infinity War last year by over $500 million.

The film was met exceptionally well by fans, as well as critics, receiving a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans were so excited for the film that on April 2, the presale date for tickets, the AMC Movie Theater website crashed and was down for multiple hours as thousands of fans tried to buy tickets.

AMC has 380 location in the United States and every single one had a least one showing an hour all weekend. Theaters opened sometimes as early as 8:00 AM to suit the needs of fans, some who went to multiple showings opening weekend.

The film itself had a total runtime of three hours and two minutes, and prior to the start, had many fans wondering when they would be able to fit in a bathroom trip. Once the lights dimmed in the theater, it became evident that every single person was glued to their seats, and that there would be no pause in the action to use the restroom.

Avengers: Endgame began with Tony Stark, or Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.), stuck on a ship in space with Nebula (Karen Gillan). After the release of the first trailer in late December, fans speculated how the duo would survive being stuck in space with theories emerging involving a rescue by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson).

As the film progressed audiences got to experience the devastation caused by Thanos’ snap, which wiped out half of the living population in the whole universe. Of the characters in The Avengers, only the original six-Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, and Black Widow-, Rocket, Nebula, War Machine, and Antman survived and each are left with a choice of whether or not to attempt to avenge every person that turned into dust.

While it is not necessary to have seen any marvel movie before going to the theater, it would be helpful to watch at least Infinity War first. The movie is much more rewarding to people who have seen all 22 previous movies, as there are many references to prior films.

The movie may be action packed but it also is a tear jerker, so tissues may be helpful to bring to the theater.

Avengers: Endgame is a blockbuster movie that shattered every single box office record and even after three hours, audiences leave the theater wishing there was more. There may not be another film again that millions of people will flock to see in the first 24 hours; Endgame is that monumental of a movie.
