Another big win for Darby Basketball

On the afternoon of Saturday, January 20th, the Darby basketball team secured a huge win over Hilliard Davidson. The Panthers played four well fought quarters with amazing plays and the final score being 48-45.

  The first quarter of the game started off well with Darby winning the tip. This led to Senior Ben Gbur dropping in the first points of the game with a layup. Davidson slowly pulled ahead, but Senior Josh Govine drew a foul and made both shots
 for two points. The first quarter ended with Davidson ahead by seven points with the score as 15-8.

  The second quarter started with Darby down, but they slowly gained ground up until halftime. Junior Jaelin Benjamin knocked down a shot, drew the foul, and sank the free throw to gain

Darby’s first points of the quarter. The game kept getting closer, with Govine making a three pointer to bring the deficit down to one point. Senior Chandler Barlow made a steal on defense and passed the ball to Benjamin, who slowed down the offense and faked out the Davidson defenders, finishing with a layup.

  Ending the second quarter, Senior Bryce Stultz scored at the buzzer sending the panthers into half time with a 29-21 lead. The Panthers were able to hold the Wildcats to a 6 point quarter with their fast motion offense and aggressive defense.

  The third quarter commenced with the Panthers holding a stable lead. The first points of the quarter were made by Barlow. He believes that this lead was due to great defense and shooting, but there also is room for improvement in free throws.

  “One thing we could improve on is free throws, we miss a lot of free throws towards the end of the games” Barlow stated.

  The last quarter began, and despite having a slower scoring quarter, the Panthers kept there lead over the Cats 38-33. Barlow swished one of his many threes of the game putting us up six more points. Nearing the end of the game the Panthers ran out the clock with a minute left. The game ended with a close win with the score of 45-48, and Darby grabbed a win against their fierce rivals.
